NOMINATIVE FIELD OF THE CONCEPT PSYCHOTRAUMA IN THE ENGLISH-LANGUAGE MEDIACULTURAL DISCOURSE

The article explores the empirical parameters of the nominative field of the PSYCHOTRAUMA con- cept within English-language media cultural discourse. The study aims to identify the lexical units that verbalize traumatic states and to construct their hierarchical model, grounded in the core-periphery prin- ciple. The research corpus comprises 764 units drawn from diverse media genres, including the animated series BoJack Horseman, the podcast Terrible, Thanks for Asking, essays from the Modern Loss platform, TikTok videos, and musical compositions associated with TraumaTok content. The analysis reveals 24 lexico-thematic groups which, through conceptual integration, converge into six dominant macrofields that structure the media representation of psychotrauma. Specifically, the affective-psychological macro- field accumulates nominations of acute emotional states; the narrative-mnemic macrofield verbalizes the fragmentation of memory and intrusive flashbacks; the interpersonal macrofield captures the destruction of social ties and attachment disorders; the socio-cultural macrofield identifies external traumatizing fac- tors; the somatic-existential macrofield objectifies the somatization of pain; and the coping macrofield represents linguistic strategies of psychological defense. It is established that a distinct zonal dynamics characterize the internal architectonics of the nominative field. The core comprises stylistically neutral lexemes with high semantic abstraction (trauma, grief, loss, anxiety, pain). The near periphery features formulaic expressions marking cognitive states (intrusive thoughts, emotional numbness, overwhelming). The distal periphery proves to be the most prolific within media discourse, characterized by evocative individual-author metaphors and figurative idioms (e.g., drowning in trauma, whole life bloomed and withered, emotional scar tissue). This particular segment facilitates affective depth and the visualization of trauma, transforming subjective experience into a socio-cultural narrative accessible to a mass audi- ence. Media cultural discourse transcends the mere transmission of psychological knowledge, actively shaping new cognitive scenarios of trauma perception through symbolic and expressive framing.
